World War I centennial hosted at library


The West Branch District Library hosted a gathering in honor of the 100th year since World War I, also known as the Great War, ended Friday, Nov. 9. The war ended the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Veteran Mike Durfee answered any questions people had during the event.There were displays of war memorabilia, artifacts from the Ogemaw County Genealogical and Historical Society Museum and light refreshments. The event was coordinated by Durfee, local veteran John Bennett, Joyce Nelander, Ogemaw County Genealogical Society member Sally Rea and library staff.
