William Jon Parmenter, 77, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at his home in West Branch. He lived in West Branch since 2000 and formerly resided in Saline and London, Ontario.

Bill was born to Elbert and Mayvine (Kennedy) Parmenter in Alpena. He was a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1962. Bill went on to serve in the Navy Reserve from 1962-1964 and the Marine Reserve in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and business administration from Western Michigan University and his master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario. Bill worked as a director of plant operations at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, for 23 years. He then moved back to Michigan and worked at Saline Community Hospital and McPherson Hospital in Howell, and most recently was employed at West Branch Regional Medical Center until he retired in April 2015.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening. He was an avid reader of history and politics. He will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, his devotion to his family and his love of wildlife, particularly birds.

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Karen (O’Connor) Parmenter; children, Jon (Peggy) Parmenter of Ithaca, N.Y., and Sara (Paul) Boyce of Dearborn; and grandchildren, Brendan, Claire, Ryan, Jordan and Lauren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive guests at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch, after which a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. officiated by Father Patrick Maher.
