OGEMAW COUNTY — For Memorial Day residents of Ogemaw County will have several ways to honor the fallen and deceased who have served our country.

Local veterans will first be visiting Alger Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. May 27 to conduct a small remembrance service.

Following that, West Branch will host its annual Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m., which will start at Second Street and travel down Houghton Avenue to the veterans memorial located across from the county building. Lineup will begin at 10:30 a.m. Those interested in participating in the parade may contact the Ogemaw County Veterans Affairs Office at 989-345-5170.

At the veterans memorial, a ceremony will be held at about 11:30 a.m. Veterans Affairs Benefits Counselor Mark DeBoer said the ceremony will include the reading of the names of veterans who have passed away in the past year, the firing of rifles, playing of “Taps” and more.

A ceremony will also be held in Rose City May 27 at 3 p.m. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3775 will be conducting it in front of the Rose City Veterans Memorial, near the entrance of Rose City Park.

Later in the week, the American Legion Post 370 will be conducting a memorial service at 11 a.m. May 30 at the Mills Township Cemetery.
