Unserviceable flags retired during flag day ceremony at Skidway Lake American Legion

Posted

The Skidway Lake American Legion retired hundreds of tattered and unserviceable flags during its annual disposal ceremony on Flag Day June 14.

Established in 1937, the flag ceremony is an honored tradition to provide a proper disposal to the American Flag.

Throughout the year, American Legions around the country collect tattered flags to retire during flag ceremonies.

Once the process of burning the flags is finished and none remain, the fire is extinguished.
