Theatrical troupe brings ‘Cinderella’ to life
WEST BRANCH — The Ogemaw Heights Theatrical Troupe will be bringing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Cinderella’ to life March 15-18.
The classic fairy tale, directed by troupe leader Toni Thomas, will feature 50 students in the spring musical.
Student actress Amberlee Santos will be playing the tattered young Cinderella who was left to be raised by her wicked stepmother — played by Savannah Withers — after the death of her father. Cinderella’s wishes become a reality when her fairy godmother — Taylor Godfrey — arrives and sends her in a magical carriage to meet her prince — Mathu Jennings.
“Although the story is one we are familiar with, seeing it brought to life on stage will be a magical experience,” Thomas said. “We have worked months trying to make this production a very magical one with a dazzling transformation scene and special effects to make dreams become a reality.”
Thomas said students have been working on the musical since late December following auditions and have overcome the challenges of missed rehearsals due to inclement weather.
“The students are ready to put on a fabulous show this week,” Thomas said.
The musical is running Wednesday, March 15, through Saturday, March 18, with show times at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available for $10 per adult and $7 per student at Edith M’s in West Branch, by calling the troupe at 989-343-2090 or by stopping into the high school office.
