Tamara Sue (Mathis) Novak, 63, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018.

She was born Jan. 5, 1955, in Flint. She moved to West Branch in 1979 and remained there as a lifelong resident. She married James “Jim” Novak on Dec. 31, 2000.

She is survived by her only child, a son, Michael T. (Gina) Mathis; two granddaughters, Josephine M. Mathis and Ellie A. Mathis, and their mother JoAnne Joye; a sister, Sondra (Charlie) Jackson; brothers, Mickey Mathis and David (Mary) Mathis; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; sister-in-law, Donna Mathis; and close friend, Chrissy Burgett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Novak; parents, Pete Mathis and Eleanor “Pat” (Farmer) Mathis; a brother, Ricky A. Mathis; and a nephew, Keith A. Mathis.

“Tammy” and her husband were members of the Moose Lodge of West Branch. She was an employee at Clear Lake Bar and Grill for 23 years. Tammy had a passion for cooking. She also enjoyed her dogs, camping, fishing, tractor shows, feeding the deer and a good game of euchre. She enjoyed art and crafts and was well-known for enjoying shopping and going to garage sales.

Tammy was a member of Lake St. Helen Baptist Church, 9785 Madison St., St. Helen, MI 48656. A memorial service and dinner will be held by her family and congregation in celebration of her life Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at 5 p.m. Floral arrangements and contributions in her memory may be sent to the church.
