Silver star veteran honored with key to Rose City


On April 6, 93-year old veteran George “Lefty” Smith Jr. was honored for his service to the country, as well as the city of Rose City. Over the course of 2 hours George was presented with the key to the city, had a street named after him and the city proclaimed April 6 George Smith Jr. day.

Thanks so much for covering this as many times we do not know the sacrifices that those that have gone before us made to keep us free. Silver Star Veteran George Smith Jr. is my dad's cousin and my dad's brother was Zane Flynn, also from Rose City, who was killed in World War II in France receiving a Purple heart and a bronze star for his efforts. That is who Flynn road is named after.

I also enjoyed the pictures you posted, keep up the good work.
