Show Me the Money Day to offer resources, information on financial health

WEST BRANCH — The Ogemaw County Economic Development Corporation is hosting its second annual Show Me the Money Day Feb. 24, offering attendees opportunities to connect with resources and gather information on various topics geared toward financial wellness.

EDC Director Mandi Chasey said the event is a resource fair like Project Connect or Neighborhood Connect, with informational vendor booths and several workshops that cover budgeting, canning, financial recovery and couponing.

A new feature this year will be the on-scene mobile food pantry. Chasey said while it would typically cost $1,200 to bring the food truck, the Department of Health and Human Services has paid for it.

Other small changes this year include a shorter time, with the event running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a switch from Friday to Saturday. Chasey said she also consulted with local transit to allow more accessibility to the event for residents.

Attendees will be given punch cards to keep track of booths and workshops they attend, because visiting four booths and attending two workshops will put a person in the running for a prize.

Chasey said the day is sponsored through the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan, which assists with organizing, marketing and training for the event. Twenty-four Show Me the Money days are held throughout the state from January to March. Last year Ogemaw County’s was one of the first to be held. This year, Chasey said the EDC wanted to make sure people had their W-2s, so if they have questions on financial aid they can get help.

Attendance is free. The event takes place at Faith Alive Church, 2945 Hansen Rd., West Branch.
