Mildred I. "Mickey" Kargel

Died Aug. 28, 2018


Mildred Ilene “Mickey” Kargel, 89, of Hale, formerly of Taylor, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 28, 2018.

Mildred was born to Herbert H. Schiller and Mary Ann (Lake) Schiller on June 9, 1929. She grew up in Dearborn and graduated from Dearborn High School in 1947. She was a member of the Hi-Y Senior Girls Reserve (a club sponsored by the YWCA). She also sang in the chorus and was a cheerleader and honor student.

On Sept. 11, 1948, Mildred married Kenneth F. Kargel in Dearborn. They were married for 63 years. They lived in Taylor for many years and then retired to Hale. Over the years she was involved in the Cub Scouts, was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child started high school, and then went to work as a medical assistant.

Mildred is survived by her children, Douglas (Brenda) Kargel of Greenville, Catherine (Howard) Garms of Alanson, Shirley (Kenneth) Robinson of West Bloomfield Township and Ricky (Judy) Kargel of Woodhaven; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Kargel) Duncan, Dawn Robinson, Krystal (Robinson) Nash, Nicole Passmore and Ricky Kargel; four great-grandchildren, Levi J. Nash, Aidan D. Nash, Logan S. Nash and Janessa Duncan; sister, Dorothy (Schiller) Vantubergen; and aunt, Marian (Rockwieler) Schiller.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert H. Schiller and Mary Ann (Lake) Schiller; sister, Ruth (Schiller) Wroble; brother, Clarence Schiller; and her husband, Kenneth Frank Kargel.

Services for Mildred will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Taylor, with a visitation from 9-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
