John William McFarland, 87, died peacefully at home Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019.

A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and author, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara.

John is survived by daughter, Jenny (David) McKellar; brothers, Paul (Pamela) McFarland and James McFarland; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Staff Sgt. John “Mac” McFarland proudly served with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and the 45th Division Thunderbirds in Korea, 1951-1953. John lived each day of his life to glorify his Heavenly Father and willingly shared his strong faith in God with everyone he met. Shortly before his death, John self-published his autobiography, “The Lion of Judah, Blessings Beyond Belief: One man’s story of God’s love and protection from Big Beaver High to Bloody Ridge and Beyond.” He will be fondly remembered by family, friends and many others who crossed his path by his personally coined parting phrase, “Goodbye and have a greater forever.”

According to John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at the Pinconning Wesleyan Church, 800 Horn St., Pinconning, MI 48650, Feb. 16, 2019. Family visitation will be at 1 p.m. and the service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gene Kelly officiating. There will also be a small gathering to remember John, date to be determined, at The Brook of West Branch, an assisted living community where John resided when he passed. Interment will be in the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
