Hall of fame to host afternoon of country music

WEST BRANCH — The Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame is continuing a strong tradition with a particular family touch this year at the fourth annual Spring Into Country show April 20.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a broad range of country music, from the 1950s all the way to the ’90s. Acts for the concert will include the hall of fame’s 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, the Leiter Sisters and the Brenda Loomis Band.

Hall of fame co-owner Sue Leiter, mother of the Leiter Sisters, said she is excited for the show, as the family has not performed together in almost 15 years.

“We spent a lot of time on the road performing together when they were teenagers,” she said. “It’s been the most fun job I’ve ever had, performing together as a family, and to do that again is really rewarding.”

Twin sisters Maryann and Elizabeth and youngest sister Traci will be performing lead vocals along with their parents Randy and Sue, revisiting a song they performed in the ’90s.

The Lansing-based Brenda Loomis Band will also be lending its talent for the night, with plenty of accolades behind its name including appearances on CMT and PBS, an audition for “America’s Got Talent” and spots on top-10 charts across Europe. The band, whose primary songwriter is Brenda’s husband Paul, has continued to perform shows across Michigan.

New this year will be a preshow event featuring the Old Timers Posse, consisting of four hall of famers including locals Lenny Hicks and Randy Leiter. Tenderfoot Award recipients will be joining them to perform classic country songs.

“Even if you don’t like country music at all, it will be very entertaining,” Sue Leiter said.

While in years past there have been afternoon and evening performances, this year there will be only one performance at 2 p.m. at the Forward Conference Center, with the preshow at 1:30 p.m., so it is suggested that tickets be purchased early due to limited seating.

Tickets are $20 at the door, but $15 if purchased in advance at ATC Car and Truck Accessories, Pointer Hill Saddlery and Gift Shop, the front desk at the Forward Conference Center, or the hall of fame office Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. Online purchases may be made at www.mcmhof.com, using the code “19MIERLY” to receive the discount.

Giveaway drawings will also be held at the show.

“Come and get a taste of what we’re doing, because every time we do it it’s a little bit different,” Sue Leiter said.
