More details released in death of 22-year-old female in city

Police release name of victim


WEST BRANCH — More details have been released regarding the death of a 22-year-old female in the city of West Branch Thursday evening.

The West Branch Police Department says 22-year-old Anna Karpinski died as the result of a single gunshot wound in the city of West Branch Thursday evening, according to a press release issued April 21.

The WBPD and the Michigan State Police were dispatched to a home in West Branch at 10:34 p.m. April 20 for an unknown shooting, the release states. Karpinski was taken to West Branch Regional Medical Center by Ogemaw County EMS, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

There is still an active and ongoing investigation regarding the circumstances of the shooting, the release says. Suicide has been ruled out, and no arrest has been made. No outstanding suspects are currently being sought.
