Driver who caused four-vehicle accident arrested, may face charges

WEST BRANCH — The driver who reportedly caused a four-car pileup on M-55 east of M-33 Sept. 11 may face charges including possession of marijuana, open intoxicants and reckless driving.

According to the Michigan State Police, emergency personnel were dispatched to the accident at approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

During an investigation by the troopers, it was determined that three vehicles were stopped at a construction zone when the 52-year-old driver from Lincoln Park reportedly approached them at a high rate of speed, causing a collision. The collision with the rear-most vehicle in the line caused a domino effect, pushing each vehicle into the one in front of it.

The resulting accident sent three to the hospital, including the alleged initiator of the crash, who is awaiting arraignment until lab results are received.
