Dean E. Busenbark

Dean E. Busenbark, 86, passed away peacefully at home in Alger on July 21, 2017.

He was born to James and Laura (Bennett) Busenbark in Detroit on Nov. 19, 1930. Dean lived in the Alger area since 1974, formerly of Livonia. He served proudly for eight years in the Michigan Army National Guard. He worked for Chrysler and Bohn Aluminum and Brass, before pursuing his dream of becoming an entrepreneur. He had a successful career as a general contractor and owner of Dean’s Novi Lumber. Once he moved north, he became involved in local politics and spent many years as Horton Township supervisor. He also worked as a property tax assessor, an instructor with the Ogemaw Heights building trades program and a farmer. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida, collecting and restoring cars and spending time with family and friends.

Dean is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Nick) Repar of Lafayette, La., and Ellen (Dale) Wiess of Au Gres; son, Jim Busenbark of West Branch; grandchildren, Jill (Nick) Suppes, Megan Repar, Stephen Repar, Josh Busenbark, Hallie Busenbark, Danielle Wiess and Derek Wiess; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Emmalyn and Ava Suppes; brothers-in-law, Bernard Pilon and Ed (Susi) Hobbins; sister-in-law, Cathy (Tom) Niemet; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Margaret; his sister, Ruthann Busenbark; and his sister-in-law, Mary Pilon.

A memorial service will be held Sept. 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in West Branch with the Rev. Tim Dibble officiating.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the home health staff of District Health Department No. 2 and the staff of Compassus hospice of West Branch for the care and compassion shown to Dean and his family.
