Consumers Energy To Interrupt Electric Service For Ogemaw, Arenac County Customers This Evening

Posted

ALGER, Mich., Aug. 30, 2017 – To allow the safe repair of the electric transmission system, approximately 5,700 Consumers Energy customers in portions of Ogemaw and Arenac counties will experience a power interruption beginning late tonight.

From 10 p.m. tonight to approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, Consumers Energy will interrupt 5,735 customers so that transmission provider ITC Michigan can safely make emergency repairs to its 138,000 volt system.

· The general area of affected customers is bordered to the north by highway M-55 in Ogemaw County’s Churchill Township and, within Arenac County, to the south by the Rifle River in Deep River Township, the west by highway M-33 in Moffatt Township and the east by Bishop and Reed roads in Clayton Township.

· Normally, customers are notified by postcards in advance of a scheduled outage. However, given the emergent nature of the work that needs to be done in a safe manner, this was not possible.

Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest utility, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE: CMS), providing natural gas and electricity to 6.7 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.

We just can't believe Consumers would not attempt to send text alerts to let seniors know the power will be out for 8 hours! What about people on heart or lung machines? Of course we understand about the repair, but some of us have to hookup generators? It would have been a lot easier to do it in the light, instead of going out at 10:00 at night. Just awful!
