He was born March 7, 1933, in Eagle on the old homestead to Bruce and Helen (Volk) Moyer. Bill graduated from Portland High School in 1951 and then joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Lindenwald for four years. After returning home from the service, he worked as a rural mail carrier out of Eagle and then became the postmaster. He became a journeyman plumber and then a master plumber and worked for Local 388 in Lansing. Then he went to work for the state of Michigan as a plumbing inspector and then as head of the Plumbing Division. When he retired he was the executive director of the Bureau of Construction Codes for the state of Michigan.

In 1955 Bill married Jacqueline McCaffrey, and they raised a family of five children: son, Mark (Mary) Moyer of Sunfield; and four daughters, Nanci Moyer of Grand Rapids, Margo (Dan) Spohn of Williamston, Dr. Monica Johnson of St. Johns and Brenda Moyer of Onondaga. They have 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jackie; sister, Betty Stephenson of Lake City; and special friend, Doc Westjohn of Mason.

Bill was a proud member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and Jackie spent 26 winters on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, playing golf, going to the casinos and playing bingo at the Elks with many of their snowbird friends.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will take place at a later date, during which his ashes will be buried in the North Eagle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Eagle Cemetery Society, c/o Pat Mitchell, 5772 Keeney Drive, Six Lakes, MI 48886.
