Barn a total loss following early-morning fire

WEST BRANCH — A West Branch Township barn was a total loss following a fire that occurred in the early morning hours Oct. 11.

Ogemaw Fire Department Assistant Chief Jim Clark said the department was paged out to the fire, located near the intersection of Dam and State roads, at approximately 1:40 a.m. By the time the call went out, the barn was fully engulfed.

“It was well-involved by the time we got the call,” Clark said. “The barn was a total loss. One tractor was also destroyed.”

Clark said nothing about the fire was unusual. However, the cause of the fire is unknown.

“It was a pretty normal barn fire,” he said. “We were on scene for about 3 1/2 hours.”

Clark said no animals were harmed in the fire.

The Ogemaw Fire Department received mutual aid from Rose City and Mills Township fire departments.
