Bad timing on the Ogemaw County Sherrifs Dept.

Posted by

I am questioning the actions of the Ogemaw County Sheriff Dept. I was in attendance at the Ogemaw Browns football game on Aug 27 when a sheriff's deputy came into the stands and took an individual into custody. Apparently the individual had a warrant for back child support (that is what the talk was after it happened). As you can imagine there was a scene with alot of obscenities being yelled. Another story was that there was an off duty officer in the stands also who saw the individual and knew this person had a warrant and took it upon himself to call the sheriffs department and let them know that the person was there.

My question is this-why did this have to happen at that particular time and place? The individual that got arrested had a son playing in the game that was going on at the time. Couldn't this have waited until after the game and saved the poor kid some embarrasment. I know that this person had a warrant and I am not saying that he should not have been arrested, but this particular time should not have been the right time to do it.

I agree 100% but as we have ben tought by big Goverment MAKE A SEEN WHENEVER POSSIBLE TO SHOW POWER AND KEEP THE MEEK IN LINE unfortinatly for our country we have come to a time in our history when the Govement is about to have controll of all of us because of there precived power and our intimidation by them. They are winning because to many people give them creddit for being smarter than the rest of us. LOOK AT WHAT THAT HAS DONE FOR US. We are about to have a baseball team bought by China ;( HOW'S THAT WORKING PEOPLE?

I do feel bad for the young boy, but it does not take away the fact that someone with an outstanding warrant is breaking the law. I am sure it was not the officer yelling obscenities and making a scene. Cuddos to the sherrif's department for doing there job and the supposed off duty officer for reporting.

I'm sure the sheriff dept could have handled the arrest in a more sensitive manner and I wish the future they would do so. Lets also consider the person being arrested may have had more than a "misdemeanor offense" to warrant that kind of treatment.

However, if he was behind in his child support (my God, where's the SWAT team?) at least he was out there supporting his child and not passed out at a local bar garden.

There's never a good time to be arrested. If the parent was a responsible person he/she should have been working with the Friend of the Court instead of against it.

So happy someone commented about this. First off i would like to say Yes he should have taken care of it through the friend of the court. Second the officer in the stands who is a "part-time" officer who was off duty had a problem with the man who got arrested so as personal satisfaction he decided to call and see if he had a warrant then sent an officer out. Instead of walking the man out to the parking lot and being alittle

More discrete about it, he hand cuffed him in front of everyone in the stands including his 2 year old son. If anyone had the right to call it should have been his ex-wife who was also sitting in the stands. Not some off duty part time cop who was mad about people calling him out over selling faulty windmills :) It is all taken care of now and I'm positive that father will be at every game and practice supporting his son!

Cuddos to the off duty officer for what? Trying to be the good cop? Haha! Really? The only thing he did was see a guy that he didn't like because he got called out at bike week for selling a faulty windmill to a crippled guy! Why couldn't he have called him in at bike week?? Oh no he waited to do it at a 8 year old football game! That "part- time" officer did that man a favor instead. Just sad his kids and all the browns fans had to witness it. ;) no the facts before you comment...

I am not saying the man should not have been arrested, and none of us are going to know all the facts unless we talk to each party involved. If what Stylist07 wrote is true, than this off duty deputy could have gone to the mans house any time he was on duty and arrested him then, he did not have to wait until during a kids football game to have it done. I mean when was the warrant issued, I highly doubt that it was issued on a Sunday morning, so there should have been other chances to arrest this man before his kids football game.

I work full time and pay child support through garnishment, However, the odds are stacked against the fathers - that is well know in Michigan. The enemy of the family, err, I mean the Friend of the Court looks at a chart to make their decisions on how much child support should be paid -- past history makes no difference.

As there is about $1billion of unpaid child support the current system needs to be scrapped and a needs/resources/idecisions system needs to be put in its place.

I've watched enough law and order to know that an arrest can be made without a scene - since this is not a criminal act (civil) why couldn;t they wait until the attendees had disbursed and like someone said contact the kid's mom -- who was there anyway?

Throw a guy in jail -- it is hard for him to go to a job to earn that money - ahh duh!

I think the big picture to look at is the father was in the wrong he knew there was a warrant for his arrest. He is the one that embrassed himself and his child. It make no difference if that parent was pulled over in the car with his son and sons friends in the car, he still would have been arrested.

This whole situation could have been avoided if the father took care of this on his own. Cannot feel sorry for someone that puts themself into this position.

ok i am not saying that he shouldnt have been arrested. i know he was in the wrong and should have taken care of his problems.

not everybody knows that they have a warrant. the police dont call you and tell you that you have one. a friend of mine had a warrant that he did not know about until he got pulled over and was was arrested.

all i am saying is that a pee wee football game was probably not the best place to arrest someone, not just for his sons sake but for all the other small children that were there. they dont need to see that type of thing or hear the shouting that took place.

Junk in the trunk, I agree. Not everyone knows they have a warrant.

down on the farm so pretty much you are saying that if someone is on state assistance that they have a warrant?

I dont understand why people just assume crap. The ONLY reason it was done like that was because the officer knew that, that was the only way to get this person back for starting crap. When in fact he was the one that sold faulty equipment and did not want to back it up.

Why can't people just mind their own business and stop butting their nose in other peoples.

Another thing is that this guy and ex are and have been getting along so she knows that he is a good dad and a dad that is going to be there for his son! Unlike most people in this community!

First someone almost always gets upset when they are arrested. Was his civil liberites voilated in any way,was anything done improper, did the Deputy step outside his job description from what I read on here I dont think so. I think the main thing people are forgeting the man is a fugetive its not like the Sheriffs Dept just picked him out at random. Ok think about this they wait till after the game is done, He pulls out onto 33 the Deputy stops him and as The Deputy is placing the cuffs on him a Driver not paying attention hits them and kills them both Now this is an extreme what if put could and very well does happen. Also the person with the warrant runs when being pulled over and smashing into a car and kills someone. Then everbody would be screaming that the had him at the game and should of done it then. Systemdoesntwork you talk about D.O.T.F. but your doing the same thing to him 2 wrongs do not make a right!

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 | Report this

U are right I was making a point 2 wrongs dont make a right & glass houses shouldnt throw stones. Your hypotheticals are extreme, yea if if if is a very big word.. he wasnt fleeing he was walking to the parking lot which is all he needed to do & the officer could of waited instead of traumatizing all the children and ruining everyone game which was the point!!

Thursday, September 15, 2011 | Report this

Exactly, he has not and was not running from the police or hiding out from the police by any means. He still did his everyday life things and what not. And yes the officer did what he is trained to do by all means and I am not against that. What I am agianst is all the bs drama that has to be involved with it. I am sure by the time that he got out of jail that Monday there was at least 20 -50 different stories as to what happend and how it happened. Some people in this town have a huge mouth and just are not happy unless they are talking about someone else.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 | Report this

Bottem line, support your children, pay your child support, and you won't traumatize your children in public. If there was a warrent the father had obviously ignored the issue for some time.

Monday, September 19, 2011 | Report this

Agreed. Child support is supposed to support the children, parents are supposed to support their children and he was supporting his childs interest in the sport at the time. He didn't follow the court order so I suppose he has to face the consequences, but why have a scene like that when he could have been followed after the game and taken into custody then. None of the children needed to witness that scene and neither did the spectators. I can see if he had a warrent for a violent crime, but this, really? Very sad, very, very sad.
