Annual Rose City bonfire and chili cook-off to return

ROSE CITY — The community is once again invited to gather for the annual bonfire and chili cook-off at the Rose City Park Sunday, Feb. 17.

The event, hosted by the Rose City Downtown Development Authority and Planning Commission, is free of charge and will have hot dogs, chili, cookies, sledding, a fire and more, DDA Secretary Theresa Erickson said.

Businesses and individuals have until 12:30 p.m. to enter the contest, with judging beginning at 1 p.m., she said.

The judges have not been determined yet, but there are going to be three people, Erickson added.

As for the turnout, she said every year is a little different.

“Some years we have an excellent crowd,” Erickson said. “Other years, not as many. It’s the same thing with the chili. Last year we had an excellent turnout with businesses and only one individual. The year before, we had more individuals and not as many businesses. It’s hard to actually guess how the

turnout will be.”

Either way, the event offers the chance to come together as a community and have fun, she said.

The event is scheduled to run from noon to 4 p.m.
