Annual Fly-In event scheduled this weekend

WEST BRANCH — The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1253 will be hosting its annual Fly-In event at the West Branch Community Airport June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon.

A variety of airplanes will be on display for children and adults throughout the day.

The event will start with a breakfast that includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice. The breakfast is $6 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children 5 years old and younger. There will be hot dogs as well later in the morning.

EAA President Phil Shaw said money raised from the event goes toward supporting the airport.

Kids will get to build and fly free balsa airplanes at the event and be part of the candy drop, when candy is dropped from a helicopter onto the runway.

Shaw said 200-400 people usually attend, depending on the weather.

“Most of the people who come are involved in aviation in one way or another,” Shaw said. “They either own a plane or just enjoy airplanes. It’s a sport just like motorcycles are.”

The event will also feature a 50-50 raffle with the final drawings for prizes announced at noon.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story had the incorrect date. The event will be held Saturday, June 15.
