Annual Christmas concert to entertain all ages

EDWARDS TWP. — Musicians will be hitting the stage performing a variety of Christmas music during the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame’s annual Christmas concert at Edwards Township Hall Dec. 2.

“The music we are playing caters to all ages,” organizer Sue Leiter said. “It is a great way to bring the family together and start the Christmas season.”

Leiter said 13 musicians, many members of the hall of fame, will be playing classic and modern songs on steel guitar, rhythm guitar, saxophone, bass and drums. The show also features several special guests.

This year’s Christmas production will be the hall of fame’s third and its eighth production since moving the hall of fame to West Branch in 2015.

The shows have continued to grow in popularity, with growing attendance including visitors from around the state, Leiter said.

In addition to Christmas music, the shows include their usual comedic details mixed in, which Leiter said mimics shows in Branson, Mo., where she and her husband and hall of fame President Randy Leiter spent 15 years in the entertainment industry.

“We always try to put some comedy in there,” she said. “It breaks up the show. We are trying to bring a piece of (Branson) to the area and bring some tourism as well.”

Leiter has been attentive to the waning popularity of classic country music with the younger generations, so she said creating a hall of fame Tenderfoot category — with its inductee age range of 17-35 years old — introduces new country stylings to the group and expands the appeal of the group.

“If we don’t draw in the young people in the hall of fame, it is going to die,” she said.

The group will be hosting two Christmas concerts Dec. 2 at the Edwards Township Hall with showtimes at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.. Tickets to the show are $15 at the door, or $13 in advance. Kids 12 and younger are free. To purchase tickets in advance call 989-701-2496 or visit mcmhof.com.
